About

"What might God be calling us into as we live and engage God’s mission as Episcopalians in the state of Indiana?"

"How can we make the most of what God has given us?"

"How can we further communicate the witness of reconciliation in the world…be beacons of Christ in a more powerful way?"

In 2023 the Episcopal Dioceses of Northern Indiana and Indianapolis entered into shared discernment around possible reunification. Our bishops, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Douglas Sparks and The Rt. Rev. Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, invited us to consider whether we might serve God's mission and seek God's vision more effectively as one diocese in the state of Indiana rather than two. See their initial announcement video here. Supported by the standing committees and councils of both dioceses, the bishops appointed the Reunification Discernment Committee with equal representation from both dioceses and the prayerful exploration was officially underway. This website will serve as the location for information about, opportunities to engage with, and FAQs related to this discernment process.  As this process progresses, the website will contain regular updates from our bishops and the committee, data and stories, schedules and registration for upcoming sessions and events, and a means by which to submit a question for response.

May God bless this journey!

Why?

Why should we consider reunification? Our bishops have said…

  • Sensing the Spirit - “What might God be calling us into as we live and engage God’s mission as Episcopalians in the state of Indiana?”

  • Being Good Stewards - “How can we make the most of what God has given us?”

  • Prioritizing Mission - “to further communicate the witness of reconciliation in the world…to be beacons of Christ in a more powerful way.”

  • So Much in Common Already - “We have closely aligned core beliefs, values: inclusion, racial justice, living of the mission of the Episcopal Church”
